Flooring planning and care
What affects epoxy flooring cost in Wichita?
Square footage is a starting point, but a useful flooring estimate describes the work behind the finish. Here is how to prepare for an assessment and compare proposals for your Wichita home or business.

Start with the space and the written scope
Measure the approximate floor area and describe what happens there. Parking a vehicle, moving loaded carts, welcoming customers and washing down a work area create different requirements. Include the room's location and access, not just a photograph of the finish you like.
Ask each proposal to identify the rooms included, preparation, repairs, coating system, finish and return-to-use plan. Two quotes for the same square footage may cover different work. A clear scope gives you a better basis for comparison than a headline price alone.
The existing concrete changes the preparation
Old paint, damaged concrete and oily areas need to be evaluated before coating. Sika's surface preparation guidance addresses substrate condition, contamination, mechanical profiling and moisture assessment. Those are distinct tasks, which is why a floor's history belongs in the estimate discussion.
Tell the estimator about previous coatings, recurring dampness and repairs you can see. Ask what is included if an older finish must be removed, and how additional work would be documented if conditions become clearer during preparation. Photographs help start that conversation; an on-site assessment may still be needed.
Compare the complete flooring system
The word epoxy does not identify every layer of a floor. Sherwin-Williams' epoxy flooring guide describes different resin formulations and layered builds. Ask what the proposed primer, body coat, decorative layer and protective finish are intended to do in your space.
Compare full broadcast flake flooring, solid color epoxy and other suitable options around appearance and use. Include the desired texture and cleaning routine in the discussion. A decorative choice and a performance requirement should both be visible in the proposal, rather than left to assumptions.
Include access and downtime in the comparison
A clear, empty garage and an operating business with equipment to move involve different coordination. Identify who clears the floor, where items will be stored and which entrances must stay available. Ask whether work needs to be phased, and whether that affects the proposed scope.
Share any fixed reopening date early. If a faster return is important, discuss suitable systems and the full installation sequence. Include storage, parking and business disruption in your own project budget even when those arrangements are outside the flooring quote.
Bring this information to your estimate request
A short project brief helps the conversation move beyond a generic price-per-square-foot question. Include:
- Approximate dimensions, the property location and the rooms involved.
- Photos of the whole floor and close-ups of damage or existing coatings.
- Current use, expected traffic and any known moisture or spill issues.
- Preferred finishes and a realistic window when the area can be unavailable.
- Items that need moving and any access or operating-hour restrictions.
Choose a proposal you can understand
Before accepting an estimate, ask which conditions could change the scope, how changes are approved and what care instructions you will receive. Request clarification of any line that describes a result without explaining the included work.
